Nov 8 – The chicks had been coming and going from the chick pen as it’s on uneven ground and there were gaps.  I figured as long as mama hen was still in there, they’d always stay close.  Well, I don’t know how *she* did it, but mama hen got out and now leads the chicks all around.  Here they are scratching in the leaf litter in the park-like field beside the house.  It’s fun to watch them wander.   Seeing how she attacks me, I figure no one else will get near her babies.  The other chickens have pretty much accepted them, though they will peck at feeding times.  There have been no attacks of chicks, though, which is nice.  Papi seems to recognize they are his kids and he’ll call them over for food if they’re close.  It’s very cute.
